Yeshua: The Lord Your God, Or 'Lord' But Not God?

An image taken over a generation ago...read about its history here.
This image is included there, #54 (9th row, 5th position).

Opinions are as vast as molecules of water in the sea.

We all have our opinions of what 'is'.

When our opinions are agreeable with others we may consider such opinions 'true'.

But that is not a litmus test separating facts from fictions.

The question in the title is one that battles have been fought over, dividing previously united people, some calling others idolators and worse.

Blood has been shed every year since Christ walked the earth of 'who' and 'how' Yeshua is.

Certain scholars have noticed a development in the description of Yeshua; a field of study called Christology.

The Gospel is quite literal at times; words can be clearly connected like a simple puzzle, as we'll see in this article.

Exegesis is a manner of critically studying texts that are believed to be inspired.

I'm not going to do that here.

Instead, I'll simply highlight portions and then complete a sentence one passage to the next.

I think these passages speak and explain their message quite clearly.

Enjoy!

Looking at John's Gospel:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
- John 1: 1-5
The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
- John 1: 14
No one has ever seen God, but the One and only Son, who is Himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made Him known.
- John 1: 18
Summary: In the beginning, the Word was God, became flesh, is Himself God.

Looking at Luke's Gospel:
The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God.
- Luke 1: 35
His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied:
“Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
because He has come to His people and redeemed them.”
- Luke 1: 67-68
Summary: the Son of Godthe Lord, the God of Israel, He has come.

Looking at Mark's Gospel:
The beginning of the good news about Yeshua the Messiah, the Son of God.
- Mark 1: 1
The whole town gathered at the door, and Yeshua healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but He would not let the demons speak because they knew who He was.
- Mark 1: 33-34
Summary: the Messiah, the Son of God, healed many, drove out many demons.

Looking at Matthew's Gospel:
This is how the birth of Yeshua the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the Name Yeshua, because He will save His people from their sins.”
- Matthew 1: 18-21
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and they will call Him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
- Matthew 1: 22-23
Summary: what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit, they will call Him Immanuel,“God with us”.

Looking at two letters to the early Church:
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
- Colossians 1: 15
For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross.
- Colossians 1: 19-20
Summary: the Son is the image of the invisible God, God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him.

Looking at John's epiphany while on the island of Patmos:
“Look, I Am coming soon! My reward is with Me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. I Am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
“Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
- Revelation 22: 12-15
I, Yeshua, have sent My angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I Am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”
- Revelation 22: 12-15
Summary: I Am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End, I, Yeshua.

Looking back roughly ~800 years before Yeshua appeared to John on Patmos:
“This is what the Lord says—
Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty:
I Am the first and I Am the last;
apart from Me there is no God.
- Isaiah 44: 6
Summary: the Lord, Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty, I Am the first and I Am the last; apart from Me there is no God.
