Into The Wild

Feeling very alone this afternoon... too much to express here and now in words.

Watching a motion picture aimed at reflecting this sentiment of loneliness in a world full of people.

Empty stomach meets earthly liquid spirits... perceptions are heightened, some thoughts suppressed and other senses enlivened.

The film showcases a man who, although very knowledgable, has become disconnected with the current world due to society's friction.

The main character is not yet broken, but has realized society has been broken for some time.

He sets on a journey to break away from this brokenness... and in the process is himself broken.

The spiritual journey we are all intended to take... but are afraid to experience.

The process of becoming broken is one of reducing what is familiar... and love is sparked in ways previously unknown.

The character is a young man, yet the character recognizes an ancient spirit within.

The first song in this film speaks precisely to the situation depicted on film, and my own reality somehow at this very moment.

My tears have not stopped flowing since the film began... now reading the captions of spoken words and the lyrics in the song.

I've seen the movie before, but had not paid much attention to the music's lyrics, and my current emotions somehow welcome this film's message in way that was previously hidden from me.

Perhaps I was not ready.

Perhaps I had been too arrogant... or afraid to feel.

The movie is heavy in terms of its themes; drama, family conflict, search for self and identity, deriving meaning from a world seemingly indifferent, and so on.

Things every single human desires to clarify for themselves, be at peace with and somehow overcome.

Often times have we little to no worthy words available to meet our feelings with truth's bluntless.

I better understand what the intended message is now, I think, at least for me at this time, and I thank the Lord.

To take a liberty and edit a confusing moment in the movie:

When at running time 12:36 the main character recites “to kill the false being within...” I know in my heart the film's author desires to clarify the 'false being' as the entity 'without', not within.

He who lives within, speaking love and light into all things, is the very light and love this film desires to portray... and I think if speaking to the 'false being' as what speaks doubt and fear, and the flesh's confusion, then my edit is unnecessary and unwarranted (and arrogant, my apologies).

It's admirable when considering the many forms of art we have available to us... and how they are intended to speak to us... speaking to us things difficult to express in words, or put across clearly.

Some works of art seem to carry much more value with them than others (despite box office sales or what critics say - speaking of movies in this case).

The recipient's value-estimate is not always correct, fair, or precise... and some works of art must first grow on us... while others, sadly, simply do not speak but are tripe.

You see, any particular work of art does not speak to every person in the same way.

What you may find absolutely exhilarating or very inspiring, another person may find dull or not interesting at all.

Interpretation, current understanding, experience, point of view, preconceived notions, knowledge, the delivery of the art form (and many other variables) depict how any given message is received by an audience member... and value is thus gauged by that art's impact.

To relate a poor measure of value towards this particular movie and what it has inspired in me, those first 12 minutes for me this time around can somewhat be related to what someone may feel after receiving a very hefty check (after being in financial need for some time)... or a kiss from someone you dearly love and longed for (after that longing had crept into despair), or something else that beckons a deep sense of gratitude or the like.

Perfect timing meets unforeseen perfect circumstance.

This is why, for example, a single verse of poetry, although a fixed amount of words or conveying a logically comprehensive message, may speak a different message to every single person who hears / reads it.

If this is how man's messages to others is perceived... what about words containing in them life, mystery, wisdom, things hidden, a wealth of intersecting messages?

This, then, could explain why not all humans will ever fully comprehend something as simple as love when love is expressed in ways it was intended (patience, kindness, humility, servitude, stillness, subtlety, etc.).

Despite the message of love being an act beyond sex, explained and defined by those words going beyond physical attractions, notice how love has spoken (and understood) in all languages and written on the hearts of so many people past and present.
