Message to Muslims Part II: The Sign

In part one of the message to Muslims, we saw how the believers are one Brotherhood.  Let us work together in laying a foundation of our common belief of the One Holy and Only God of all creation.  Let us come together in peace and humility before He who sees and knows all things.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow His precepts have good understanding.  To Him belongs eternal praise.

- Psalm 111:10

- fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom
- those who follow His Way have good understanding

What should be the perspective regarding the faith in Allah / God which preceded Islam?

If thou wert in doubt as to what We have revealed unto thee, then ask those who have been reading the Book from before thee: the Truth hath indeed come to thee from thy Lord: so be in no wise of those in doubt.  Nor be of those who reject the signs of Allah, or thou shalt be of those who perish.

- Surat Yunus 10:94-95

( a summary of some points )

- if doubt or misunderstanding exists, ask those whose faith came before yours
- the truth is from the Lord
- do not reject the signs of Allah / God, otherwise you will perish

Some were humble and obeyed the signs Allah / God showed them, some failed to see the signs due to their pride and arrogance, just as some are too proud and arrogant today to consider what has already happened and to which has been recorded:

It was We who revealed the law ( to Moses ): therein was guidance and light.  By its standard have been judged the Jews, by the prophets who bowed ( as in Islam ) to Allah's will, by the rabbis and the doctors of law: for to them was entrusted the protection of Allah's book, and they were witnesses thereto: therefore fear not men, but fear Me, and sell not My signs for a miserable price.  If any do fail to judge by ( the light of ) what Allah hath revealed, they are ( no better than ) unbelievers.  We ordained therein for them: "Life for life, eye for eye, nose or nose, ear for ear, tooth for tooth, and wounds equal for equal."  But if any one remits the retaliation by way of charity, it is an act of atonement for himself.  And if any fail to judge by ( the light of ) what Allah hath revealed, they are ( no better than ) wrong-doers.  And in their footsteps We sent Yeshua the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before Him: We sent Him the Gospel: therein was guidance and light, and confirmation of the Law that had come before Him: a guidance and an admonition to those who fear Allah.  Let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah hath revealed therein.  If any do fail to judge by ( the light of ) what Allah hath revealed, they are ( no better than ) those who rebel.

- Quran Surat l-Maidah 5:44-47

What is the guidance and light given to Yeshua which his disciples put their hope in?

Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace.  For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”  The child’s father and mother marveled at what was said about him.  Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed.  And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”

- Luke 2:28-32

( a summary of some points )

What is one sign that John the prophet saw and testified to concerning Isa / Yeshua?

The next day John saw Yeshua coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!  This is the One I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because He was before me.’  I myself did not know Him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that He might be revealed to Israel.”  Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on Him.  And I myself did not know Him, but the One who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the One who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’  I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.
