Your Ideal Occupation Part Two

The specialization of the world has brought about many inventions and has helped mankind strive forward in ways the world has possibly never seen before.  Throughout recent history, inventions made by those who did not have to work the fields helped make bringing in the food much easier for everyone.  Systems of management were made.  Machines replaced people.  The leisure time made it possible for more thinking, more invention and the making of other means of earning a living / money were brought about.  Today I enjoy a particular lifestyle because of the inventions and machinations of civilization.  I am grateful yet have become mindful of the cost involved in this benefit.

Count The Cost

All things come with a cost or a crinkle in the material.  Not to limit inventions and modernization, but we should see with an objective and open eye what inventions and ‘modern’ things have to offer; judging for ourselves both the good and the not so good of the 'modern.'  Not every invention or manifestation from man’s mind has brought about good things.  I'm sure you could think of some of the bad things yourself.  Any given thing can bring, for example, 60% good ( productivity, assistance to labor, solutions to problems, more profit, etc. ) and 40% bad ( waste, contamination, disease, unemployment, etc. ).  It would be ideal to aim for and realize 100% good and none of the bad.  Imagine a world where no one ( and their life ) is diminished because of the appetite of others in the manner those others make their money / a living.

Consequences of Profit Motives Without Regard to Life

Sometimes the new, the easy and the modern comes at a cost.  Sometimes this cost isn’t easily seen and less easily explained.  Sometimes it takes generations to reveal where the path deviated for the worse.  In the pursuit of profit, cigarette makers began to produce cigarettes with addictive ingredients, deviating from the early product of natural substances.  This was purposed to guaranteed repeat customers.  The need to earn a living became a wicked pursuit steeped in greed and disregard for the health of others.  I am sure you can think of several other industries, businesses and methods of earning a living which produce side effects onto others and either ignore this reality or deny it altogether.  One day, someone came up with the microwave oven.  Thanks to that invention, one doesn't have to wait 30 minutes for something to be cooked but only has to wait 3 or 5 minutes.  Yet, that invention also brought some unhealthy situations which are controversial but very true.  Reading the link on the microwave, is the health risk worth speeding up your food cook time?  Sure, many people made millions selling microwaves, but we have yet to see the full damage in the human body from the use of microwaves.  I personally ceased using one and when out for a bite, I try to make sure the food is cooked in some other way.

Judge Things, Not People

One should not see the modern with suspicion, but with an objective view.  Be faithful in embracing what is new but do not turn a blind eye to what comes along with the new.  The pursuit to split the atom had a byproduct; the idea of a nuclear bomb.  Einstein was conflicted to find out his mathematical work was used towards the making of the worse invention to date at the time; the atomic bomb.  To some, this new invention is 100% good in their aims.  To me and to Einstein, it is 100% bad and evil to the core; no way to logically or consciously accepting it.

Choose and Do Good

What if people were to make a decision Today to 'do' or invent or work at something ( what you occupy your time doing ) that would be well above the 50 / 50 level between good and bad and would only pursue things which were nearly or mostly 100% good!?

What if people would put the financial pursuit, the profit motive and the marketed lifestyle of consumption aside in second, third or last place and simply follow the good in their heart!?  I know that not all people have good intentions at heart at any given time, arguably some may never get there.  Perhaps you reading this message are of the group which is desiring to do nothing but good!

Choose Today to pursue your heart's good desire!  Do this with faith-filled expectations!

Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.

Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.  Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

- Psalm 37:1-4

May He give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.

- Psalm 20:4
