The Mouth Speaks The Heart's Overflow
I see many beautiful people every day. Attractive people. Handsome men and beautiful women. Some say the suit makes the man. Many people consider the outer appearance is very telling of what or who they are on the inside. Is this true? A woman conservatively and modestly dressed may pass by unnoticed while a woman dressed to impress or to accentuate her body won't pass by unnoticed by some men. But how can one tell who really is a beautiful person?
In my experiences, I personally cannot tell if someone is beautiful until they open their mouth. When I hear their words is when I can truly tell what is happening on the inside. Some people I initially perceived to be beautiful can become quite ugly according to their words. Listening closely, you can tell the condition of some people's hearts the moment they speak.
I know the thoughts that come across my heart, and how ugly words can be formed on the tip of my tongue, ready to be unleashed. I can tell when I am about to become ugly. Some ugliness does slip through my lips, and I forget who I was made to be. My human condition spills through, turning His beautiful creation into an ugly mess. But thank God for His grace, patience and love. Indeed He is good and loving.
“Are you still so dull?” Yeshua asked them. “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.”
- Matthew 15: 16-20
