Living Water

A friend recently asked me two questions:

How do I know I'll make it to heaven?

What do I need to do?

My response:

He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

They replied, “Believe in the Lord Yeshua, and you will be saved—you and your household.” Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized. The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole household.

- Acts 16: 30-34

“Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Yeshua, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”

When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the Name of Yeshua Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

- Acts 2: 36-39

This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and He knows everything. Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from Him anything we ask, because we keep His commands and do what pleases Him. And this is His command: to believe in the Name of His Son, Yeshua Christ, and to love one another as He commanded us. The one who keeps God’s commands lives in Him, and He in them. And this is how we know that He lives in us: We know it by the Spirit He gave us.

Thank you for responding, Steve.

It is interesting how simple the Gospel really is, yet men seem compelled to complicate it. The jailor, the eunuch, and those who heard Peter preach that first day were either short-changed by not being bound by the complexities of doctrines and dogmas, or were actually blessed to have received the simple message, walking therefrom by faith.

May I ask you: why do you suppose believers spend so much time on disputing doctrines and less time actually doing good to and for others; being examples of Christ so others may 'see' and believe?
